As anyone in the business of creating will tell you, intellectual property is the basis of innovation. Intellectual Property (IP), tangible or otherwise, is a valuable asset to any individual or organization. Protecting Intellectual Property rights, however, is often a grey area where many creatives lack the knowledge and know-how to protect themselves.
To provide much needed clarity on the subject, the Better Living Challenge invited our legal partners, Adams and Adams, to shed some light on exactly what IP is, and the various ways in which people can protect their creativity. This month Adams and Adams will be hosting a presentation on the various IP rights relevant to designers and innovators at the Cape Craft and Design Institute (CCDI).
When: Wednesday 16th April 2014
Time: 14h00 – 16h00 (question session and networking included)
Where: Event Space, CCDI, Harrington House, 2nd Floor, 37 Barrack Street, Cape Town
RSVP: By Monday 14th April 2014 to: firstname.lastname@example.org
The presentation is open to all interested parties in the craft and design sector, as well as entrants to the Better Living Challenge who may have questions around IP.
Information will be presented on:
• Patents (the patent process, requirements and the effects of a granted patent)
• Registered designs (design protection; the process and the requirements)
• Copyright (the basics of copyright and infringement)
• Trademarks (requirements of a protectable brand and brand protection mechanisms)
We look forward to seeing you – space is limited so please RSVP and join us for this informative afternoon!
